29th Chapter wins best gospel at UMAs (17.11.08)

Righteous rap crew, 29th Chapter picked up the Best Gospel prize at this year's Urban Music Awards (UMAs).

The London foursome - Mr Prince, Navigator, McGladius, Phonetix - beat fellow nominees GK Real, Blessed  Voices, Freddie Kofi and Siani in the same category.

Other UMA winners include Leona Lewis (Best R&B Act and Best Album 2008); Bashy  (Most Inspiring Act 2008); Chipmunk (Best Newcomer); Myspace.com/thehookup (Best Website); and Choice FM (Best Radio Station). British musician Finley Quaye collected this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

The annual UMAs, now in its 6th year, celebrates the best musical talent from the urban scene.

This year's event was held at London’s IndigO2 on 15 November  but was put on hold after a chaotic brawl broke out leading to the stabbing of three people.

Eyewitnesses said there was "blood all over the floor" with flying champagne bottles and chairs causing general "hysteria".

Tickets for the ceremony were available to the public which will not be the case next year. The 2009 UMAs "will now take place exclusively in a secret location as a strictly invitation televised event," according to UMA officials.
