Christian leaders  talk on Obama victory  (08.11.08)

The UK's Black Christian Leaders Forum has called Barack Obama’s presidential result as a defining moment in the history of the most powerful nation in the world.

The members from the forum that aims to bring about social transformation met recently to discuss Obama being the first African-American in the White House.

In his words to supporters in Chicago after it was announced he was the President-elect Obama said: “If there is anyone who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.”

“This is a defining moment in American political history. I congratulate Barack Obama on his historic victory”, said Dr R David Muir, from the Black Christian Leaders Forum.

“Ultimately, it is the realisation and triumph of Martin Luther King’s dream of a person being judged not by the colour of their skin, but by the content of their character,” he went on to say.
