Rhydian Roberts

X-Factor star talks on his faith and life (06.11.08)

Former X-Factor finalist, Rhydian Roberts, has recently spoke about how his faith in God has pulled him through some of his most difficult times. The Welsh classically trained singer was second in last year’s music competition.

When the 25-year-old was just aged 19, he had a nervous breakdown and contemplated suicide.

”I wanted to be a singer at the top level and was panicking that I wasn't going to make it, I didn't want to live any more. Committing suicide is not the way to go, but you feel that low”, he said.

As a result, Rhydian was then put on medication by his doctor and underwent counselling. He then hit rock bottom again after entering the competition with pressures such as the public not liking him. Rhydian believed prayer helped him to get through.

“Believing in God is like having a father in Heaven, it doesn't matter whether you're Simple Simon or Simon Cowell, God loves everybody the same,” he added.

Rhydian was signed by Simon Cowell’s Sony BMG label in a £1 million deal and next month is set to release his first album.
