Credit crunch affects Marlin Awards (03.11.08)
The Caribbean Gospel Music Marlin Awards have been postponed allowing nominated artists "additional time" to finance their trips to the event in the Bahamas.
The popular event showcasing the best in gospel music from the Caribbean and beyond has been rescheduled for 26-29 March 2009 from the original date of 23-26 October this year.
According to Marlin Awards president, Kevin Harris, "this postponement will allow many of our delegates which include members of the regional and international media as well as some of our nominated artists representing various Caribbean countries, an additional amount of time to finance their trips here to the Bahamas because many countries as well as recording artists have been severely affected by the current global economic climate".
Marlin officials also say the change of date will also allow extra time to introduce "several new and exciting marketing and advertising initiatives including brand new Marlin Weekend 09 audio and video promos, international magazine print ads and a new version of its official website".
More than 100 artists are expected to take part in the Marlin Awards next year representing 17 countries including Antigua, The Bahamas, Barbados, Jamaica, England and the United States. UK gospel’s Four Kornerz and Roger and Sam Grandison have been nominated for awards.
