Jahaziel wins MOBO award for Best Gospel (16.10.08)
Jahaziel picked up this year’s MOBO award for Best Gospel act.
The UK holy hip-hop artist beat off US heavy weights Kirk Franklin and Tye Tribbett along with fellow UK act Ekklesia in the same category.
Picking up the award from David and Carrie Grant, former MOBO winners themselves for Best Gospel, Jahaziel said: "First and foremost thanks to my Lord and soon coming king, Jesus Christ, for the privilege of serving him through the music ting. And big up everyone who's using their talent to preach the Gospel."
Other MOBO wins included Dizzee Rascal collecting Best UK Male, Estelle winning Best UK Female and Best Song for American Boy; Leona Lewis getting Best Album for Spirit and Best Video for Bleeding Love; and Chipmunk picking up the best newcomer award. Fellow Christian Yolanda Brown also picked up an award for Best Jazz act.
This year marked the 13th year of the MOBOs, the UK's premier annual awards celebrating music of black origin in the UK and beyond. The glitzy award ceremony was held on Wednesday, 15 October at the Wembley Arena in London. This year’s hosts were former Spice Girl, Mel B and Rev Run from the 80s rap group, Run DMC.
