UK Christian Council tackles lack of young leaders (29.09.08)
Leading evangelicals in Britain attended the Evangelical Alliance council recently to discuss the crisis that the church is facing with leadership.
One of the key issues discussed included the lack of younger leaders to replace those who are leaving or retiring. In response to the issue, the council endorsed future initiatives that would be used to mentor potential young leaders to a range of new media and inspire them to gain a deeper understanding of theology. “We need a new generation of leaders, not to replace anything that has been done by the last generation, but to entrepreneurially think of new ways of taking the timeless gospel of Jesus and making it relevant,” said Peter Greig, International Director of 24/7 Prayer. Other opinions expressed were that of Richard Tiplady, British Director of European Christian Mission and an expert in leadership in a post-modern context: “One of the primary responsibilities of leaders is to grow new leaders. If you’re not doing that, you’re not being strategic”.
