Bible story made into UK stage production (29.09.08)
A new theatre production based on the Old Testament story of Ruth has been created and is to launch in Greater Manchester this month.
The UK-based company ‘No Nonsense’ developed the RUTH production, which is funded by the Bible Society. The Society is using Ruth to demonstrate how the Bible can connect with everyday life in the 21st Century through the arts. The story that consists of an exhibition and performance tells of modern day experiences of women forced to flee their countries to find refuge in the UK. Women of non-British origin will feature in the art exhibition, which includes design textiles that will be shown while the production is on stage.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for schools and family groups to see how inspiring Bible journeys have a continuing tale to tell today," said Luke Walton, Bible Society‘s Arts Development Officer. The exhibition and production will both take place from 6 October at the Waterside Arts Centre in Sale, Cheshire and will run for three months.
